Beşiktaş Chairman Yıldırım Demirören announced his presidential candidacy for the Turkish Football Federation. There are 20 more candidates.

 

WELCOME BACK QUARESMA

After a long-term injury and a red card finally Quaresma helped Beşiktaş with a goal to win over Gençlerbirliği. Almeida and Fernandes also scored in 3-2 victory.

 

TURKISH CUP WINNERS

The basketball team of Beşiktaş JK won the Turkish Cup for the first time in the club's history. The final game ended with a 78-74 victory against Banvit.

 

ST. VALENTINE'S DAY GIFT

Beşiktaş won 2-0 against Braga in Portugal. It was the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 32. Sivok (37th min) and Simao (58th min) were the scorers.

Nihat Kahveci (32) has announced that he is retiring from football. He had started his career in Beşiktaş's youth team. During his career Nihat scored 39 goals for Beşiktaş, 59 goals for Real Sociedad, 24 goals for Villarreal and 19 goals for the national team.

NBA lockout ended and Deron Williams will rejoin the Nets. Beşiktaş retired his No. 8 jersey as part of a farewell ceremony prior to the 4th Eurochallenge game.

Guti has been released by Beşiktaş after agreeing to the mutual termination of his contract. The 35 year old star played 40 games and scored 12 goals for Beşiktaş.

Egypt's Ahmed Hassan equalled international appearance record after earning his 178th cap in a defeat by Brazil. The 36 year old had played for Beşiktaş between 2003-2006 and scored 30 goals in 79 matches.

SORROW AND HOPE

Beşiktaş supporters threw their black and white hats and scarves to the pitch in the 88th minute of the match against Fenerbahçe. Those will be sent to Van to support victims of the earthquake. Black symbolizes sorrow and white symbolizes hope.

 

A BREATHTAKING DERBY

The match against Fenerbahçe ended in 2-2 draw at home. Simao scored a spectacular goal in the 12th minute. Almeida scored a headed goal in his first match after the injury.

 

CENTURION AWARD

Rüştü Reçber, 38 years old Beşiktaş goalkeeper, received a UEFA award before the national match against Germany. Rüştü have made the most international appearances for Turkey with 119 times. He retired from international level after EURO 2008.

Hugo Almeida will be out for up to 6 weeks after picking up hamstring injury. He was replaced in the 59. minute of the game against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Beşiktaş won 5-1 the first game in UEFA Europa League. Almeida (2), Aurelio, Egemen and Edu were the scorers against Maccabi Tel Aviv in İstanbul.

Beşiktaş eliminated Russian team Alania in the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League after a highly stressed second game. Sivok, Guti (pen.) and Almeida were the scorers in the first game (3-0). Away game ended with a 2-0 defeat.

Turkish Super League will have a new format this season. In the end of the regular season the first four teams will struggle in a play-off league to determine the champion.

Brazilian striker Bobo signed a 3 year contract with Cruzeiro. Bobo played five and a half season for Beşiktaş and scored 97 goals in 227 games.

Portuguese striker Bebe injured during a U-21 friendly match against Slovakia. The healing process will take six months. Beşiktaş JK has loaned Bebe from Manchester United for one year.

Portuguese trainer Carlos Carvalhal will be in charge of the Black Eagles until the end of the trial of Tayfur Havutçu, who is in jail at the moment.

DERON BECAME AN EAGLE

NBA star Deron Williams signed a contract with the basketball team of Beşiktaş JK. Deron will play for Beşiktaş until the end of the NBA lockout. He is the second NBA star who became a Black Eagle after Allen Iverson.

 

NOBLE BEARING

Beşiktaş JK decided to give back the Turkish Cup until the end of the trials of Tayfur Havutçu and Serdar Adalı. Both are accused of trying to fix two opponent players in the Turkish Cup final, which Beşiktaş won against İstanbul BB 6-5 on penalties in May.
 

GREAT SHOCK!

Beşiktaş trainer Tayfur Havutçu and vice-president Serdal Adalı have been arrested as part of the investigation in connection to the match-fixing scandal in Turkish football. Fenerbahçe president Aziz Yıldırım has also been arrested since last week.

 

INVITATION DECLINED

Beşiktaş received an invitation from Real Madrid to take part at Santiago Bernabeu Trophy. But the Black Eagles declared that they cannot take part at it because they are going to play in UEFA Europa League on the same week.

 

RONALDO IN ISTANBUL

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo visited İstanbul as a guest of Beşiktaş JK president Yıldırım Demirören. Both are business partners in Portugal.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CLUB

Beşiktaş JK, founded in 1903, is Turkey's first sports club. The colors of the club are black and white. The club's nickname is The Black Eagles. Beşiktaş JK is the only Turkish club in history which has played as a national football team. Therefore Beşiktaş JK had gained the right to use the Turkish flag in its emblem. The club's football team is the best team in Turkey. The home ground of Beşiktaş JK is the beautiful İnönü Stadium with a 32,786 seating capacity. It is located by the Bosphorus, near the Dolmabahçe Palace.
